For my first newsletter, I wanted to share how I got into aquariums. It wasn’t something I planned. It started while I was helping a friend clear out a rental property.
The renters had left behind a fish tank—with fish still in it. I’ve always loved animals, so of course, I had to take them home.
Then came the research. I wanted to give those fish a healthy home, but the more I read, the more overwhelmed I felt. So many people had different suggestions. It wasn’t that anyone was necessarily wrong; I just didn’t know where to start.
If you’ve ever been a beginner staring at your tank, wondering if you’re doing everything right, I know that feeling.
And then I discovered planted aquariums.
I fell in loveee. 🌿
I thought it was the coolest thing that plants could grow underwater. I’ve always been fascinated by water—the ocean, swimming, all of it—and discovering these little underwater gardens pulled me right in. That was when I knew I was getting into this big time.
From one tank to a whole community
I started my TikTok, Glass GardenTanks, to share what I was learning and what was working for me. It grew fairly quickly, and now there are almost 12,000 beautiful people in our TikTok community and 1,300 subscribers on YouTube.
It still amazes me that taking home those fish led to all of this. Thank you for being part of it, whether you’ve been following for a while or you’re just finding Glass Garden.
I want to keep learning and help people create beautiful aquariums they can enjoy without constantly stressing about them. Things will still happen, and there will always be something new to figure out. But I remember how overwhelming the beginning felt, and I hope sharing my experience can make yours a little easier.
